[Lance Stone](https://ontimetech.valeonetworks.com/blog/author/ulisticadmin) : Dec 24, 2018, 11:16:03 AM [Managed IT Services](https://ontimetech.valeonetworks.com/blog/tag/managed-it-services) We've all been there. You have a big client deadline and all of a sudden the printer or computer or software program that you depended on to get the job finished all of a sudden stops working. If you're like most financial service company owners or managers, your expertise is in world markets, acquisitions and mergers, stocks and bonds, NOT technology. Sure, you know a little bit about what your computer can do and you have the software that keeps track of your customer accounts and your company's bookkeeping. But, you need the help of a computer repair company when you experience that sudden, stressful computer failure. ## Frequently asked questions when looking for computer repair services in San Francisco While it's tempting to call the first [computer repair](https://www.ontimetech.com/blog/5-critical-signs-that-you-need-to-replace-your-i-t-consulting-company/) person listed in the phone directory or who comes up with a Google search when looking for computer repair services in San Francisco, this is rarely the best course of action. After all, you're entrusting this person with your computer network and giving him or her potential access to your sensitive customer and business files. It's essential to vet anyone you have work on your computer systems properly. Below are just a few questions you'll want to ask. **1. What are your credentials?** It may seem like an obvious question, but not all computer repair persons are equally experienced. Best to ask before you give any person off the street the "keys" to your computer kingdom. One good advantage of choosing a managed IT service package is that you already have a computer tech on call, one who already knows you and your computer configuration. With a [managed IT services](https://www.ontimetech.com/services/current-it-provider/) package, your computer tech can get right to work troubleshooting your problem. **2. What is your specialty?** There are so many computer products on the market today, as well as those a few years old that it is virtually impossible to stay up to date on all of them. Most computer repair technicians have more experience and expertise on a particular kind or set of products. Apple, Linux and Microsoft all offer a variety of certifications. This is a great place to start in asking about a technician's expertise. **3. How will you protect our data?** Any computer repair technician of any reputation will have a plan to back up your data before he or she attempts to fix your computer issue. Your customer and business data are the lifeblood of your business. It's not something you or the technician wants to see jeopardized. **4. How much do you charge?** The amount a computer technician charges can tell you something about their business. In general, computer repair services cost around $50-$75 per hour. If you are quoted more than that, someone may be trying to take advantage of your desperate situation. If you are quoted much less than that, you may be dealing with either a start-up company or a sub-par one. Saving money is another reason to go with a managed IT services package. You know exactly what you'll be paying each month for your IT services and the monthly fee is generally much less for the entire suite of services than you'd pay for an emergency fix. ## San Francisco Computer Repair companies versus managed IT service companies A good computer repair company can help get your computer back online and help with software and printer problems. However, a managed IT services provider is more of a business partner than a third-party vendor. When you hire a managed IT services firm, like On Time Tech, you get access to a myriad of [San Francisco IT services](https://www.ontimetech.com/video-library/managed-services-san-francisco/) that are chosen specifically with your business in mind. We start our relationship with you by sitting down and learning about you, your business and your hopes and dreams for the future. Only then do we put together an IT services package tailor-made for you and your business. Yes, it will include computer repair, but it will also include things like cloud services, IT consultation, data back up and recovery, wireless network configuration and [cybersecurity](https://www.ontimetech.com/blog/cybersecurity-services/).
